Currently,
I'm a senior researcher
at INESC
where I lead the Distributed
Systems Group
since 1998.
I
have a Ph.D. in Computer Science
from the University
Pierre et
Marie Curie (Paris 6). As a
Ph.D. student (from 1992 to 1996) I did my
research at INRIA
(in Rocquencourt,
near Paris)
in
the group SOR.
I have a Ms.C.
in Computer Science from the
Technical University of Lisbon (IST). While a Ms.C.
student I did my research at INESC.
I'm associate
professor
at IST
(Engineering
School
of the Technical University of
Lisbon) where I've been teaching for many years. In
1996 I've created the discipline called ARGE
("Aplicações
em Redes de Grandes Escala") which then changed its name to PADI
("Plataformas e Aplicações para na Internet") as
it is
called now; I've teached this discipline since 1996 up to 2006/07 both
at Alameda (MEIC) and at TagusPark (MERC).
In
the past I've
also teached Operating Systems (Sistemas Operativos). More recently,
I've created another discipline called Mobile Computing
("Computação Móvel") which I'm
teaching at both
campus of IST (Alameda and Tagus).
Regarding
more advanced disciplines
(Masters and PhD levels), I've
teached Distributed Systems Computing
("Computação em
Sistemas Distribuídos") and Ubiqutous Computing
("Computação Ubíqua"). Currently, I'm
teaching a
new discipline called Advanced Distributed Systems ("Sistemas
Distribuídos Avançados") for PhD students.
I
have participated in several
European Projects such as Comandos,
Harness, Broadcast, PerDiS,
etc. Additionally, I' was the leader of several international and
national funded projects such as OBIWAN (funded by Microsoft Research
Cambridge) , Haddock-FS (funded by Microsoft Research Cambridge),
UbiRep (funded by FCT), MobileTrans (funded by FCT), and many
others.
My scientific interests are: system support for large-scale
distributed data
sharing, replication and consistency protocols, distributed garbage
collection,
persistence by reachability,
operating systems,
large-scale distributed applications, internet
protocols.
