Instructions for PS->PDF Distilling

Please take notice that the .ps files resulting from the compilation of your document must be distilled into a .pdf file conformant to the ACM settings that will be used for the print, cd and/or the digital library.
For ACM distilling settings, please download the following job option settings:
ACM.joboptions (right click and choose save target as) to your Program Files, Adobe, Acrobat, Distillr, Settings folder and name as -- ACM.joboptions Then use this setting when you create/distill your new pdf.

  1. Your actual source files are needed (.tex, .eps, .png, etc.), to extract text and data to produce information and metadata for ACM's digital library, and to ensure conformance with ACM standards. Please follow instructions regarding LaTex provided below.
  2. Submissions that do not conform to the ACM standards and formats will be returned to the author for corrections and/or alterations. Also be sure that there are no bad page or column breaks--meaning no widows (last line of a paragraph at the top of a column). If this happens either tighten the previous column or force a line over. Section and Sub-section heads should remain with at least 2 lines of body text when near the end of a page or column. Also, be sure that your .pdf file is formatted for Letter paper.
  3. Be sure that the .pdf file generated has all its fonts embedded in the file itself. Otherwise, printing will not appear correctly.
  4. Authors with color figures, authors please be aware your M figures are printing in black and white (grayscale) in the body pages of the proceedings. We suggest you print your paper to a black/white printer (or black-white version) to be sure that the tones, screening, images reproduce well in black and white. Your images may appear in color on your electronic submissions and will appear in color in the ACM digital library. We recommend images to be at least 300 or 600 dpi for quality reproduction.
  5. U.S. Government employees please contact Luís Veiga for the correct copyright statement for your submission, kindly inform us of the authors, their affiliations, and which program you are using to produce your submission to receive the proper copyright statement.

Follow instructions according to the program you will be using to prepare your submission for the proceedings:

LaTEX Instructions

  1. Please use sig-alternate class file or the class file regular sig class file from the ACM website ( http://www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/template.html ).
    The first class file follows a tighter format. Both of them automatically insert the ACM copyright statement and conference info that is needed)].
  2. Insert the following three lines in your .tex document after \begin{document} to produce the correct copyright statement and info:

    \conferenceinfo{PPPJ 2008,} {September 9--11, 2008, Modena, Italy.}
    \CopyrightYear{2008}
    \crdata{978-1-60558-223-8/08/0009}

or alternatively, if the complete text of the copyright strip does not appear (in some templates), insert the full info as:

\conferenceinfo{\small{Permission to make digital or hard copies of
all or part of this work for personal or classroom use is granted
without fee provided that copies are not made or distributed for
profit or commercial advantage and that copies bear this notice and
the full citation on the first page. To copy otherwise,
to republish, to post on servers or to redistribute to lists,
requires prior specific permission and/or a

  3. Please include all files with figures (e.g., .eps, .png, etc.).
  4. Please create a .zip file with your .tex document and figure files.
  5. Name your .tex, .zip and .pdf files using your lead author's last name and initials (example: for John C. Weaver, weaverjc.tex / weaverjc.zip / weaverjc.pdf).
